OIL PAINTINGS

These artworks reflect the world through the artists eyes, sometimes deep and symbolic, sometimes fleeting, other times realistic or stylised.

A note from the artist
"There are so many artistically talented people in the world, each bringing their own views to communicate their message visually to the world.
My view is that artwork should be beautiful, colourful and full of life so that it can grace your walls whilst still showing respect to its initial inspiration.
It's a journey and I'm still travelling."

Three Mile Fire - Dec 2019

Like many Australians, even city dwellers like me have been devastated by the loss of peoples’ homes, the habitat and the lives of our native animals in the recent bushfires. In fact I believe all of Australia is mourning together.

My emotional response has been to paint. This bushfire scene was painted from a photograph with permission from the photographer Wolter Peeters who works for the Sydney Morning Herald.

It’s such a powerful setting, the ferocity of the destruction going on is palpable. I found myself immersed in the painting, almost feeling that heat as I was doing it; it became a labour of love and a really emotional experience for me.

My intention was always to auction it to raise funds for the victims of the fires and I am very happy that The Sphinx hotel in Geelong were able to include it in their fund-raising efforts with great success and much money raised for the victims.

Twelve Apostles less a few  $970  SOLD

Oil on Canvas 122cm x 61 cm Varnished

The might of the Southern Ocean against the cliffs near the twelve apostles.

The wildness and ferocity of this region has always been appreciated by tourists and artists . You can't help but feel overpowered by its grandeur.

This spot has a strong emotional attachment for me, as a marriage proposal was made (and accepted) here by some good friends.

This work was created with brushes and palette knives of varying sizes and stokes to represent the turbulence of the water.

Mount Murchison - Tas $490

Oil on Canvas 45cm wide x 90cm high

Cold, hostile, wild and ablaze with wildflowers in the shadowed valley. I was so taken by this photograph I had to paint it! I love the oranges and yellows of the flowers against the reds of the craggy rock faces, the hidden valley and the misty mountains in the background.

Cullulleraine $880

Oil on Canvas 90cm x 90cm

An aerial view showing the Murray river winding its way through the dry landscape in northwest Victoria, right on the border with NSW. This aerial is a fascinating view of the area and was created over many weeks with layers of oil paints and a gloss added to the river and lake.
The strong rusty tones contrast against the lighter dry plains and wooded areas lining the river giving definition and freshness to the scene.

Paradise Lost $880

Oil on Canvas 90cm x 90cm

The impact of the 2020 bushfires was far reaching and took a toll on many Australians; this is my second work on that theme. It's an imagined abstract view of how the area near Howes Creek Victoria would have looked if fire had burned to the edge of the water. It illustrates the contrast between the paradise on the left where I imagine many families would camp during the holidays and the devastation bushfire would leave on the opposite side of the creek.
Beautiful aquas and greens fight for dominance against the blackened stump.
